Syria warns against Israeli flyovers

DAMASCUS, Syria, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- "Uncontrollable tragedies" will result if the international community remains silent on Israel invading Syrian airspace, Syria warned the United Nations.

Israel's "illegal act will place the region as well as the peace and security of both countries in the face of uncontrollable tragedies," said the letter sent to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the U.N. Security Council, Ynetnews.com reported Tuesday

Syria claims Israeli jets last week entered Syria's airspace from the Mediterranean Sea and jettisoned fuel tanks near the Turkish border before being chased off by the Syrian air-defense system. Israeli officials have had no comment.
