Swedes protest NATO exercise

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, May 13 (UPI) -- Several thousand people protested in Gothenburg, Sweden, against a NATO exercise being staged from the city's harbor.

"We don't want Gothenburg to be linked to an aggressive military alliance," said Ana Rubin, a spokeswoman for the peaceful protest.

Protesters carried banners with mottos that read "Crush NATO" and "Hope U Sink."

As many as 43 ships, including ships from Sweden, were scheduled to participate in the naval exercise, The Local reported. Other nations included Britain, the United States, France and Turkey.
