Copyright 2007 by United Press International (via ClariNet) COLLEGE STATION, Texas, April 11 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney says he believes the U.S. military needs more money to defend America against terrorism. Romney is calling for military spending of at last 4 percent of gross national product, which is slightly higher than current spending, The Washington Times reported Wednesday. Romney delivered his comments Tuesday at the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas. The former Massachusetts governor praised President George W. Bush for his policies on terrorism and said Americans must take the threat of terrorism more seriously. Romney said Bush acts solely from a "desire to protect America and to promote liberty around the world."
