Perez Hilton facing lawsuit over photos

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Famed U.S. gossip blogger Perez Hilton has been hit with a $7.6 million lawsuit over his allegedly unauthorized use of photographs protected by copyright.

The 28-year-old online gossip columnist, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., is named in the Nov. 30 lawsuit filed by the paparazzi company of X17 Inc. over his use of 51 of its photographs, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"We've had trouble with a lot of bloggers," X17 co-owner Brandy Navarre said. "But he's the biggest, and the most arrogant and pigheaded about it, frankly."

The newspaper said Hilton has remained unrepentant about his part in the suit, and is unconcerned about a recent cease-and-desist letter he received from seven similar paparazzi companies.

"If the law says I am wrong, if a jury of my peers says they think my actions are wrong, then I will listen to them. But I don't think they will," Lavandeira told the paper. "Especially if they see that the person who is suing me admitted she is suing me because I am arrogant. A judge would dismiss that."
