Labor Party narrowing gap in Scotland

EDINBURGH, Scotland, May 2 (UPI) -- Britain's Labor Party has cut into the Scottish Nationalist Party's lead on the eve of regional elections in Scotland and Wales, a poll found Wednesday.

An ICM polling company telephone survey of 1,014 Scottish citizens found that the Labor Party had gained 5 percentage points on the Scottish Nationalist Party in regard to Thursday's regional elections, The Scotsman reported.

While the Scottish party remains ahead in the polls with 2 percent of the constituency vote, the vast differences in both sides' campaigning strategies appears to be impacting the race.

The SNP chose to minimize voting on Scottish independence from Britain, as well as talks with the press, while Labor officials publicly attacked the independence movement.

The change in polling figures came after SNP official Pete Wishart on Tuesday virtually assured a party win, The Scotsman said.

"We are going to give him a helluva kicking on Thursday," Wishart said. "The Scottish people will have their say on this prime minister. It's not going to be a pretty sight."
