BAGHDAD, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. and Iraqi soldiers raided the Baghdad headquarters of the party headed by Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, party leaders said Saturday.

In a press release, the Iraqi Islamic Party said that 20 weapons were seized during the operation Friday evening, KUNA, the Kuwaiti News Agency reported.

The party is a member of the Iraqi Accord Front, which holds 44 of the 275 seats in parliament. The Iraqi Islamic Party recently left Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government, but Hashimi remains vice president.

In its statement, the party called on the government to protect civil institutions and end "illegal practices."
