See-through frogs

(BANG) - Japanese scientists claim to have bred the world's first transparent frogs.

The see-through amphibians are useful for research because their internal organs and blood vessels can be seen without the need for dissection.

Although there have been transparent fishes, this is the first time there has been see-through four-legged frogs.

Professor Masayuki Sumida, who led the team at Hiroshima University, said the frogs' skin had very little pigment as tadpoles.

The researchers were able to see how the organs grew in the body as they transformed into frogs.
