A British pedestrian crossing attendant has been banned from donning her annual Christmas fancy dress outfit because of health and safety.

Margaret Russell has worn the festive clothes for the past 20 years to help raise money for the Mayor of Southampton's charity.

However, the town's council has forbidden her from dressing up as they claim the costumes prevent her reflective clothing from being seen.

Margaret said: "If a motorist can't see a giant turkey or a giant snowman holding a lollipop, they shouldn't be driving."

She has decided to stand on the side of the road collecting for charity while her boss works the crossing.
