Homewood bound

(BANG) - Three homesick Australian crocodiles walked 250 miles back home after they were relocated.

The reptiles were shipped to a more remote area after they were caught near popular beaches and rivers.

However, their strong homing instinct proved too much and they managed to find their way home.

The crocodiles, who each had a tracking device attached to them, were taken away by researchers to see how they would cope with their new surroundings.

Professor Craig Franklin, from the University of Queensland, said: "We often thought crocodiles tired very quickly but here we show very clearly that they are capable of moving long distances for days on end.

"Crocodiles are more closely related to birds than they are any other reptile so they are possibly using navigation systems similar to birds."
