Copyright 2008 by United Press International (via ClariNet) JAKARTA, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Doctors say former Indonesian dictator Suharto remains attached to a ventilator but is conscious and showing signs of improvement. Suharto, 86, was hospitalized Jan. 4 with multiple organ failure, pneumonia and a potentially lethal blood disease, the BBC reported Saturday. As of Friday, Suharto's heart and long capacity had improved and his doctors were optimistic he eventually might be able to return home, the BBC reported. Suharto ruled Indonesia for 32 years until protests forced him out in 1998. In recent years, he has suffered a series of strokes and other debilitating illnesses.
