High winds blast parts of Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- About 5,000 Swedes were without power Sunday but weather officials said the latest storm system was less potent than expected.

Tens of thousands of homes were left dark as the storm swept through Saturday but all but 5,000 had their power restored by Sunday, The Local reported.

A downed power line closed train stations and a bridge at Uddevalla was closed for seven hours.

High winds caused minor damage throughout Stockholm Saturday night and scaffolding on a building in central Stockholm caved in, blocking a metro station exit.

Winds blew a temporary toilet, known as a "portaloo" from the top of a Stockholm building, damaging several cars.

The Swedish Forest Agency said forests in south-central Sweden suffered major losses in the winds.
