Bill Clinton praises Norwegian efforts

TROMSO, Norway, May 21 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton praised Norway's environmental and economic positions last weekend while making the first of three appearances.

Speaking in the Norwegian city of Tromso Sunday, Clinton praised the nation's government for providing its citizens with a strong economy and for taking major steps towards limiting nationwide emissions of carbon dioxide, Aftenposten said Monday.

While Clinton applauded lofty goals on the environmental front, the former president said such efforts would require major advances in related technology.

He also asked Norway's leaders to share such technology with the rest of the world should it be developed.

The newspaper said that Clinton is scheduled for two more speaking engagements while in Norway.

One will in Bergen Tuesday and in Oslo Wednesday.
