Alliance to help clean energy businesses

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. energy officials said the Clean Energy Alliance will expand start-up opportunities for businesses wanting to use cleaner burning energy sources.

The organization will use the business model of its predecessor, National Alliance of Clean Energy Business Incubators, to help start-up businesses that want to use cleaner alternatives for their fuel needs, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory said in a news release.

The Clean Energy Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that will work with NREL and the Department of Energy in helping businesses launch, NREL officials said. Officials said the organization plans to add 10 more incubator locations nationwide to offer educational programs, business connections and information to help businesses using clean energy technologies grow.

The National Alliance of Clean Energy Business Incubators, begun in 2000, had 11 business incubators that assisted 69 companies, said NREL, the Energy Department's research and development facility for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
