Pokemon - Pocket Monsters

Pokemon is a hugely successful and popular Japanese franchise featuring “Pocket Monsters” (hence the name) and their owners. The concept was developed by Nintendo, and was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995. Pokemon started out as a Game Boy video game, and has since expanded into anime, manga, trading cards, toys, books, movies, and other media. The franchise’s catch phrase used to be “Gotta catch ‘em all!”, though that slogan is no longer used. Pocket monsters each have their own abilities, which are used by their owners in battles. The franchise has not been without its share of controversy, which have involved children having seizures while watching the anime, as well as racism and animal cruelty concerns. Pokemon is seen as many as a big player in popularization of Japanese media and entertainment in America.
