Grey's Anatomy

“Grey’s Anatomy” is a television drama series that airs on ABC. The show has grown in popularity since it first aired as a midseason replacement on March 27, 2005. Although there is an ensemble cast on the show, the main character is Dr. Meredith Grey, who is played by Ellen Pompeo. Her voice offers narration at the beginning and end of many of the episodes. Other stars on the show include Sandra Oh as Dr. Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens, and Patrick Dempsey as Dr. Derek Shepherd (also known as “McDreamy”), among others. Oh won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award in 2006 for her role. Though the show has received critical acclaim, there are those who have expressed their disapproval of the show. Medical groups in particular have condemned the show for presenting a glorified and false depiction of the extent to which doctors and medical professionals interact with each other. Others have said that “Grey’s Anatomy” is a virtual copy of “Scrubs,” another popular medical-related show. The show has earned the media’s attention for its racial diversity, which the producers are proud of. They said that they used “blind-casting,” which means that they did not label any roles with a particular ethnicity. The show is now in its third season, and airs on Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
