General Hospital

In the history of American ABC television network, General Hospital is the longest running series also the longest running soap opera produced in Hollywood. The show was first launched on ABC on 1st April, 1963, same day when rival network NBC launched its own medical soap opera called "The Doctors". General Hospital was first broadcast for 1/2 hour but then based on its positive reviews it turned into a 45 minutes show in 1976 and finally with in a year it became a one hour show in 1978. The credit of success of " General Hospital" goes to a team of wife and husband, Frank and Doris Hursely; those are the creators and writers of the show. The show has many things that make it very interesting and catchy for the audience. Notably that of the super couple and fast paced action-adventure plotlines that were remarkably different from the more traditional domestic and social issues that had been the sole focus of most soap operas during the previous decades. The story of "General Hospital" revolves around the Doctors, nurses and other staff members. It is all about doctor involvement with nurses, their cases, their personal lives and their profession. Each individual has been given equal importance in the show. The show, as well as many of its actors and crew, has been nominated for many dozens of awards, winning on many occasions. It was considered as the favorite show for year 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005. Other Daytime Emmy awards for "Outstanding Drama Series" were in year 1981, 1984, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2005. Both the Hollywood actresses, "Tamara Braun" and "Vanessa Marcil" became popular after appearing in " General Hospital". Tamara joined the show in 1963 just when it was started and played a role of "Carly". While Vanessa joining in the show was a bit after Tamara came. She appeared in "General Hospital " in 1992 as "Brenda Barett" and she is one of the well known star by the audience.
