Emmitt Smith

Emmitt James Smith III was born on May 15, 1969 in Pensacola, Florida. He was a productive running back, and is regarded by most as one of the best ever to play the game of football. He holds records for career rushing yards, and career rushing touchdowns for both the NFL and for the Dallas Cowboys. Smith played college football at the University of Florida where he set 58 school records. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1987, and left the school after his junior year to pursue an NFL career. After being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, Smith helped the team to win three championships in four years. After volunteering to be released by the Cowboys in 2003, Smith spent the next two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He signed a contract with Dallas for one day and no money in 2005 so he could retire as a Cowboy, and on February 3, 2005, Smith formally announced his retirement from the NFL after playing 15 seasons. Most recently, he appeared in the fall 2006 season of “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC.
