Dateline

Dateline - Dateline NBC (sometimes called just Dateline) is a US weekly television newsmagazine broadcast by NBC similar to ABC's 20/20 or CBS's 60 Minutes. Since 1992, it has been pioneering a new approach to primetime news programming. The multi-night franchise, supplemented by frequent specials, allows NBC to present the highest-quality reporting, investigative features and newsmaker profiles, consistently and comprehensively. The most notable incident was, on February 18 1993 when Dateline NBC aired an investigative report about General Motors pickup trucks allegedly exploding upon impact during accidents, because fuel tanks were badly designed. Although there were fuel tank design problems with GM cars before, Dateline's film showed a sample of a staged low speed accident with fuel the tank exploding. This year, ‘Dateline NBC’ has been honored with a number of distinguished awards for excellence in journalism including three Emmy awards, an Alfred I duPont-Columbia University Award silver baton, three Edward R. Murrow awards, three American Women in Radio and Television Gracie Awards, an Investigative Reporter and Editor award, nine National Headliner awards, and two National Association of Black Journalist awards.
