As The World Turns

As The World Turns first premiered on April 2, 1956, and has been a mainstay on CBS daytime TV ever since. The premiere family was always the Hughes, and many of the early storylines revolved around their adventures. As time continued to move on over the years, new families have joined the drama.

As the World Turns is produced by Proctor and Gamble, the same company that produces Guiding Light, the only to have a longer on-air tenure than ATWT. Come 2006, ATWT will celebrate a rare television milestone by celebrating its 50th Anniversary of being on the air.
As the World Turns is a piece of Americana culture. The show was created Irna Phillips, the godmother of daytime television. Helen Wagner, recipient of a Lifetime Emmy Award will be celebrating 50 years of playing the same character on daytime television in 2006. Primetime shows like Desperate Housewives, and many of the day time soaps use the same basic formula to get ratings.  Here is a synopsis by Toby Goldstein of a recent show that gives an average display of all the drama viewers can expect on a weekly basis.  Jack received information about the van blowout that threw suspicion onto Keith, but he refused to act in any way that could risk his relationship with J.J. Keith, encouraged by Lily's divorce plans, told an elated Jack and Carly that he wants J.J. to live with them. As Lily prepared a romantic dinner, she discovered the bee pollen among Keith's things. James' plan to kill Rosanna and steal Cabot was foiled when Craig knocked him out and the authorities took James away. Henry, despite his love for Katie, told her they're through after overhearing her express lingering feelings about Mike. Will attempted to keep his distance from Celia as his interest in her grew. Coming: Paul hasn't burned all his bridges with Rosanna.”
