Vick surrenders; to be sentenced Dec. 10

RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Suspended Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick Thursday surrendered to federal authorities in Virginia in advance of his Dec. 10 sentencing on dogfighting charges.

Vick pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a dogfighting ring on property he owned in Surry County, Va. His early surrender in Richmond, Va., surprised Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal John Hackman, but he said it wasn't all that unusual, the Virginian-Pilot reported.

Vick attorney Billy Martin issued a statement saying Vick has taken responsibility for his crime from the start, adding he again apologized for his actions.

Though the charges carry a possible five-year sentence, Vick entered a plea under an agreement calling for him to serve 12 to 18 months.

Vick is on indefinite suspension from the NFL.
