Randy Johnson may be going back to Arizona

NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 25 (UPI) -- The N.Y. Yankees are talking with Arizona about trading five-time Cy Young award winner Randy Johnson back to the Diamondbacks, the Newark Star-Ledger says.

Johnson, 43, has a full no-trade clause in his contract with New York. He pitched for the Diamondbacks from 1999-2004 and led the team to the World Series title in 2001 over the Yankees. Four of his Cy Young Awards have come in Arizona, while the other was in 1995 with Seattle.

A 10-time All-Star, Johnson has a 34-19 record in his two seasons with the Yankees. That included a 17-11 record with a 5.00 ERA in 33 starts this past season. He has $16 million due in his deal with the Yankees in 2007.

Johnson had surgery at the end of the season to repair a herniated disc in his back.

Johnson has 280 wins over his 19-year career.
