Mike Awesome

Mike Alfonso is an American professional wrestler better known as Mike Awesome. Mike started to wrestler by Training with Steve Keim. He, occasionally accompanied with Brett Sawyer, fought at the Pro Wrestling Federation. After appearing a few times on TV at the World Championship Wrestling, Mike moved to Japan to specialize on hardcore wrestling, involving weapons such as barbed wire, fire, explosives and others at the Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling (FMW). He returned in 1990 as “The Gladiator” and worked in Extreme Championship Wrestling and then back to Japan. Again in FMW The Gladiator defeated Atushi Onita, Katsutoshi Niyama and Hayabusa. Later along with partners Kisakatsu Ooya and Mr. Gannosuke he won the FMW World Street Fight 6-Man Tag-Team Titles. But lost all titles a month later by loosing to Masato Tanaka. After trying for a little period at All Japan Pro Wrestling, Alfonso decided to go back to the United States and appear as “Awesome” at ECW. So he did and won twice the ECW World Heavyweight Championship and many other fights. Then moved to WCW. In 2000 Awesome developed a new way to attract attention by coming out as “That 70s Guy”. Dressed with retro outfit and sometimes even driving a painted bus around the arenas. Meanwhile Awesome feuded Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Kanyon, Jeff Farret, Vampiro, Shaggy 2 Dope, Violet and Bam Bam Bigelow. After leaving his 70’s custom he joined Lance Storm & Elix Skipper and feuded the Filthy Animals but lost. By 2001 Awesome has joined The Invasion storyline during a challenge between two other fighters. While the winner, Rhyno, was celebrating Awesome appeared grabbing Rhyno and making the pin. Due to the 24/7 Hardcore title rule Awesome received his first WWF Hardcore Title. Later he lost the belt to Jeff Hardy. Even though he was not fighting anymore, in spite of a few appearances at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Awesome reencountered Tanaka at ECW and won the match. Mike Awesome retired to spend more time with his family and selling real estate.
