Chris Jericho

Christopher Keith Irvine was born on November 9, 1970 in Manhasset, New York. He adopted his stage name, Chris Jericho, as a tribute to a song called “Walls of Jericho” by Helloween, a German metal band. Jericho received his wrestling training in Calgary, Alberta in Canada. He made his first pro wrestling appearance on October 2, 1990, and went on to wrestle in various associations and locations. His first major appearance was on World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1996 when he was placed in a pay-per-view match with Chris Benoit. Jericho made a grand entrance onto the World Wrestling Federation scene when his countdown clock (used to build up the anticipation of his arrival) reached zero on August 9, 1999 in Chicago. He introduced himself as Y2K (in honor of the Y2K bug that many feared at the time), and interrupted a match in which the popular wrestler The Rock was taking part. The two exchanged verbal abuse, and Jericho rose in popularity since then. In late August 2005, Jericho made an official statement on his Web site that indicated that he was taking a break from wrestling, but that he was not done, and that if he returned it would be with WWE. He is currently spending his time touring with his band, Fozzy, hosting a radio show on XM Radio, and appearing on VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” Jericho is a self-proclaimed Christian, and is married to Jessica Lee Lockheart. The couple has one son and two daughters.
