CLEVELAND, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has donated $10,000 to the Cleveland police department for a new bomb-detecting dog.

The money will also go toward a bulletproof vest for the dog and for training for the dog and the officer assigned to it, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday.

Roethlisberger's foundation grants money to police and fire departments in Pittsburgh as well as other areas where the Steelers play regular-season games.

The Cleveland department got the grant after Roethlisberger learned that their explosives-detecting canine, Rex, is 11 and almost ready to retire, the Plain Dealer reported..
