Princess Grace remembered

(BANG) - The life of Monaco's Princess Grace is being celebrated in her native US, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death.

Hollywood legend Grace Kelly - wife of Monaco's Prince Rainier - died this week in 1982 aged 52, when she suffered a stroke at the wheel of her car and crashed on one of Monaco's winding roads.

In homage to the beautiful star's renowned style, New York department store Saks of Fifth Avenue have created window displays inspired by her impeccable look - characterised by full skirt dresses, khaki slacks, silk scarves, pearls, white gloves and pastel twin-sets.

Bob Sullivan, editorial director of Life books, which has produced a magazine to mark the 25th anniversary of Grace's death, said: "No one could wear a pair of khakis like Grace could.

"Grace Kelly set the style for many American woman and the younger generation is still influenced in a six degrees of separation way. She lives on in the conscious here. In this country her story is absolutely singular, unique.

"There are very few people out there who don't feel well about Grace Kelly.

"Her story is almost mythological as little girls everywhere dream of growing up and becoming a princess but American don't pull that off."

Toby Boshak - executive director of the Princess Grace Foundation USA - revealed the princess' family have donated two dresses to be auctioned off in aid of the foundation, which funds rising stars.

While New York auction house Sotheby's is holding a Grace Kelly exhibition of her jewellery, clothes, and pictures. The show opens on October 15.

Cosmetic company Estee Lauder is even bringing out a 'Princess Grace Coral' lipstick to mark the occasion.
