Princess Diana jury driven through her final journey(BANG) - The jury for the inquest into the death of Britain's Princess Diana were taken through the streets of Paris yesterday (09.10.07) in a bid to solve the mystery into her final journey. The jurors were driven from the Ritz Hotel - where Diana had been staying with lover Dodi - along the Champs Elysees and up to the apartment the couple were heading for on the night they died. The five men and six women were told this was the most direct route through the French capital. However, in the early hours of August 31st 1997, Diana's driver Henri Paul took the couple on a detour route along the banks of the River Seine and through the Alma tunnel. That is where the Mercedes he was driving crashed into pillar 13, killing himself, Diana, Dodi and seriously injuring the princess' bodyguard Trevor Rees. The jury must decide why Paul - who went missing for three hours before he returned to the Ritz to take Diana and Dodi to the apartment - decided to take that route. Dodi's father, Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, has always claimed the couple were murdered by the British establishment. He insists MI6 agents lured the car into the tunnel so a carefully-planned "execution" could be carried out and made to look like an accident. Coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker decided to take the jury to Paris so they could view the layout of the city before they have to deliberate over conspiracy theories later in the inquest. They must decide whether the couple died as a result of an unlawful killing or if it was just a tragic accident.
