Taylor Hicks

Taylor Hicks is an American gray-haired singer and songwriter known for being the winner of American Idol‘s fifth season. He also plays guitar and blues harp. Taylor was born on October 6, 1976 in Birmingham, Alabama. He started singing “When I started to crawl” (http://www.americanidol.com/contestants/season5/taylor_hicks). By the time he was 5 Taylor was already interpreting Kenny Rogers or Michael Jackson. He was nick-named Coconut Head because of his hair style. At age 12 he demonstrated his talent by singing Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness” to his family. As soon as he graduated from Hoover High School in 1995, he joined Auburn University to major in business, communications and marketing but soon dropped out because of unmotivation. So he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to persue music. He was a regular performer for weddings, bars and clubs such as The War Eagle Supper Club and at the playboy Mansion. Soon he released his first independet album “In Your Time” (1997) and many years later his second “Under the Radar” (2005). He also performed along with many known icons: James Brown, Tom Petty, Drive-By Truckers, Robert Randolph, Jackson Browne and Keb Mo. Finally he auditioned for American Idol in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since he never signed contract when releasing his record he was accepted and also qualified on the top 24. By May 10 he was on the top 3 and on May 24 he was proclaimed the new American Idol. By the way the oldest, second male (after Ruben Studdard) and first finalist against a female to win the title. Taylor Hicks is currently working on the contract he signed with 19 Recordings Unlimited in May. Some of his recordings have already been released. He has also performed on various concerts.
