Ruben Studdard

Ruben Studdard, whose full name is Christopher Ruben Studdard is an American pop music singer, was born on 12th September 1978. Studdard earned his first fame when he became the winner of the second season of the television program, American Idol. He began singing at the age of 3 in a Rising Star Baptist church, Birmingham, Alabama. Studdard was very often in singing at church and he continued to play and perform at many singing competitions as a child. However he also earned a scholarship in football at Alabama A&M University. Inspired from the singer mother, Donny Hathaway and growing up listening to her songs, Studdard completed major in voice studies from Alabama A&M University in 2000. His first single album was released in 2003 with a hit song "Flying without wings". Later he was also honored with a Grammy nomination in December 2003 for being best R&B male vocal performance and in 2004 he won the NAACP best new artist award.
