Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPhee is an American singer known by her performance at American Idol’s fifth season. She was born on March 15, 1984 in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. McPhee has been singing since she could, at two years old. With her mothers training, who’s a vocal coach and cabaret singer, Hatharine grew up motivated and talented. After graduating from Notre Dame High School, in 2002, she attended The Boston Conservatory until the second semester when she was persuaded by a manager to participate at the television pilot season in Los Angeles. So she did and also participated at an independent film. She also performed at the musical production of “Annie Get your Gun” and “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” by Scott De Turk and Bill Francoeur. At the American Idols audition in San Francisco McPhee impressed the judges by singing “God Bless the Child”. Judge Simon Cowell quotes: “Parts of that were absolutely fantastic”. She was the first to be put in the top 24 list. During the semi- finals performances she interpreted Barbara Streisand’s “Since I fell for you”, Stivie Wonder’s “All in Love is Fair”, Aretha Franklin’s “Think”, and during the finals Stevie Wonder’s “Until You Come Back to Me”, Ella Fitzgerald’s “Come Rain or Come Shine”, Christina Aguilera’s “The Voice Within”, Faith Hill’s Bringing Out the Elvis”, Queen’s “Who wants to live forever” and many others. On May 24, 2006 Katharine did not make the majority of the votes and made second to Taylor Hicks, the winner of American Idol. Katharine expressed:” I don’t need sad faces or anyone to feel bad for me. I have got a record deal, pretty much. It wasn’t about winning the title, I just wanted to give the best performance I could”. From June 9 to 11 she toured along with tenor Andrea Bocelli and performed in three of his concerts. On the 27 of the same month her first single was released “Somewhere over the Rainbow/My Destiny”. Bad news is that she will not make to the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2006, since she’s ill with bronchitis and laryngitis.
