Microsoft's Zune to offer wireless sharing

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Microsoft's Zune music player will make wireless song-sharing a possibility for users when the new device hits U.S. stores this holiday season.

With its new device's wireless technology, Microsoft intends to improve the social experience associated with portable entertainment, while increasing the computer company's hold in the world's digital music market, The New York Times reported.

"With Zune, we are not simply delivering a portable device," said Microsoft's J Allard. "We are introducing a new platform that helps bring artists closer to their audiences and helps people find new music and develop new social connections."

Microsoft would not offer firm details on the official release date or the anticipated cost of Zune, but company did confirm that it would be released in time for the upcoming holiday season and offer 30 gigabytes of memory.

While Zune users will be able to send one another full-length songs, recipients will only be able to listen to a track three times before they have to decide whether to buy it.
