Italy to salute late actor Mastroianni

ROME, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Marcello Mastroianni, one of Italy's most beloved actors, died 10 years ago on Dec. 19 and the entire country is gearing up for a tribute to his work.

The House of Cinema museum in Rome's Villa Borghese Park plans to screen the films of the three-time Academy Award-nominated Mastroianni, the ANSA news agency reports.

Also planned on that date is the release of a documentary on DVD titled "Marcello-Una Vita Dolce," or "Marcello - A Sweet Life," by Mario Canale. ANSA said that the film cobbled together clips of his films and the recollections of family members on the actor.

Mastroianni was best known for the 1960 Federica Fellini film "La Dolce Vita," or "The Sweet Life," where Mastroianni played the part of Marcello Rubini, a young playboy journalist who spends his days among the rich and famous looking for parties and a grand time. He plays opposite Anita Ekberg in the movie.

Mastroianni was married to Italian actress Flora Carabella and they had one child, Barbara, before splitting split up, however, they never divorced. He later had a relationship with Catherine Deneuve, the mother of his second daughter, Chiara Mastroianni, who is also an actress. He died of cancer in 1996.
