Gunmen heist 4 PlayStation 3 consoles

SACRAMENTO, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Two men robbed a California store at gunpoint, making off with four Sony PlayStation 3 video game consoles the day before public sales were supposed to begin.

The thieves also grabbed several Microsoft Xbox 360 systems from the GameStop store in Elk Grove, the Sacramento Bee reported.

After Thursday's robbery, many stores in the area added security guards. Police also warned the hundreds of people waiting in line outside stores for the Sony PlayStations to go on sale Friday morning to be careful, pay with credit cards instead of cash and to remember that no piece of electronics -- not even this year's hot item -- is worth a life.

The latest PlayStation has been plagued by manufacturing troubles and only 400,000 have been distributed to stores in North America. While the consoles retail for $499 to $599, they are already selling for thousands of dollars on eBay.
