Fans tell CBS: Bring back 'Jericho'

LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- A grassroots online movement by U.S. fans to revive the just-canceled CBS post-nuclear drama "Jericho" touched a CBS executive, the network said.

When CBS announced its fall lineup, CBS President of Entertainment Nina Tassler said the network had canceled "Jericho" because the show had "lost its engine," the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Since the announced departure of the Skeet Ulrich vehicle, fans have bombarded the network with letters and e-mails expressing disappointment. An online petition has 60,000 signatures.

One fan posted a "Bring Back Jericho" poem.

Tassler was so moved that she posted a letter to "Jericho" fans on the show's message board on the CBS Web site.

"She was touched by the letters and e-mails she's received because they each had independent voices," Chris Ender, a network spokesman, said.

Tassler said the CBS appreciated "the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment."

CBS executives were to meet this week to discuss how the network could alert fans on how the "Jericho" story would have ended. A grassroots campaign was successful in renewing the '80s police drama "Cagney & Lacey."
