Efron finds success in movie musicals

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Zac Efron admitted life has changed considerably and for the better since he starred in last year's hit TV movie "High School Musical."

"There are a lot more doors open," Efron told UPI in New York recently. "I'm a bit busier. I get to travel a lot. That's one of the main bonuses for me and one of the biggest ways my life has changed is that I get to go see the world now. ... It's a blast. I've been to Australia. I've seen all of Europe, Spain. That's huge for me. I love that."

The 19-year-old actor also starred in the recent big-screen film, "Hairspray," as well as last week's TV ratings bonanza "High School Musical 2."

"Musicals are so much fun to make," he said. "As actors, there is never a dull moment. You are always singing and dancing."

He also said he likes the idea that movie musicals are making a comeback.

"I love that both 'High School Musical' and 'Hairspray' are sort of helping to make them mainstream again. I like to think that we are making a younger audience -- a new generation -- aware of musicals."
