Editor banned from Italian fashion shows

ROME, April 22 (UPI) -- A U.S. fashion critic who provoked outrage with her criticism of Italian designers and their lines has been banned from covering some fashion shows in Rome.

New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn has been banned from shows by Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, after calling their designs vulgar, uncreative and unoriginal, The (London) Independent reported.

The day after Horyn's critique, the newspaper said, the Italian news service Ansa ran a piece attacking Italian fashion designs, saying they made their models look like "Mafiosi" and "trollops."

Although the spat may have slightly hurt the market, The Independent reported that the Italian fashion industry is in no way hurting financially.
