Doogie gay, but not Canadian

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. television star Neil Patrick Harris said he announced his homosexuality this week because of rumors that he was gay.

People magazine reported this week Harris, 33, star of the CBS comedy, "How I Met Your Mother," and the hit "Doogie Houser," told them exclusively that he is "happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions" about his sexuality. "I ... am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living life to the fullest."

The revelation came shortly after a publicist for Harris, Craig Schneider, had issued a statement following a Canadian Internet report that he had gotten his "longtime sweetheart" David Burtka, a role on his show.

Schneider said in the statement that Harris was "not of that persuasion," but clarified that to say that the "persuasion" he was referring to was Canadian.
