Australian park named after 'Croc Hunter'

BRISBANE, Australia, July 22 (UPI) -- "Crocodile Hunter" star Steve Irwin, who died last year in a stingray attack, is being honored in Australia with a wildlife reserve named for him.

The Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve -- a 333,000-acre park in the naturalist's home state of Queensland -- features marsupials, sharks and dry vine forest, Sky News reported Sunday.

Irwin was particularly fond of the area that is now the reserve, his wife Terri Irwin said, and "would have been proud to see the property protected as a wildlife reserve," Sky News reported.

The Irwin family will manage the reserve, said Malcolm Tumbull, Australian environment minister.

The Irwins' 8-year-old daughter, Bindi Irwin, has launched a career of her own in nature television.
