Akon concert canceled as canopy collapses

ATLANTA, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Thursday night's Akon concert at Emory University in Atlanta was canceled after a canopy fell, injuring people setting up for the event, TMZ.com said.

Eyewitnesses told the Web site crews were setting up lights on the stage for the university's Fall Band Party when they heard the canopy crack and fall, causing the left side of the stage to collapse and cause injuries to some students and a drummer.

Akon was not present at the time, TMZ.com said, adding a representative for Akon could not be reached.
