'Idol' runner-up releases first album

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Katharine McPhee wants music fans to know she's more than the demure diva they saw on "American Idol."

The franchise's latest runner-up released her self-titled debut album Tuesday and the 22-year-old singer said her goal was to "show people my personality more" on up tempo tracks such as "Love Story," "Open Toes" and "Not Your Girl."

"I'm young," McPhee said. "I like to have fun and party and show my spirit, so that's what the whole record is about.

"People think they know you so well on 'Idol,' but some people are better at showing that (personality) than others. I personally stuck to being very professional and very put-together on 'Idol.' Now I can be a little bit more myself."
