PalestinePalestine is a district or territory, which lies in between the Mediterranean Sea and the banks of the Jordan River. The name 'Palestine' was originally given by the Philistine people. Earlier the population of Palestine was 500,000 out of those 47,000 were Jews who owned 0.5% of the land. In 1897, the first Zionist Congress was held in Switzerland, which issued the Basle program on the colonization of Palestine and the establishment of the World Zionist Organization. In 1904 the Fourth Zionist Congress established national home for Jews in Argentina. When Britain and France signed the Sykes-Picot Agreement, it divided the Arab region into zones of influence. At that time Palestine was internationalized. In 1949 Palestine disappeared as a distinct territory after Israel and Arab states had a Armistice Agreements. Palestine was then divided between Israel, Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Add to: Forums: Palestine Tags Related to Palestine |
