Oprah Winfrey

Oprah, the Lifetime Achievement award winner, has declined her nomination for the Daytime Emmy Award. She said "...after you've achieved it for a lifetime, what else is there?" Oprah Winfrey was also a Co-host on a tv talk show called "People are Talking", as well as a news anchor in Baltimore Maryland.

She graduated High School (East Nashville High) in 1971 located in Nashville, TN and voted most popular. Also achieved degrees in performing arts and speech communications from Tennessee State University.

In 1998 she ranked #1 in the Entertainment Weekly's as one of the most powerful people in industry, but in 1999 she dropped to 6th place. Oprah is probably still the only African-American woman to be ranked that high.

She is the first woman in history to own and produce her own tv talk show known as the "Harpo production", which is Oprah spelled backwards. Also elected to the National Women's Hall of Fame and listed as one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1985" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 37. Oprah received $130 million dollars for doing her talk show through the 1999-2000 TV season. In 1997 she was chosen as one of the top 50 most beautiful people in the world by "People" magazine.

The name "Harpo" was also the name of a character for her Oscar nominated role in "The Color Purple", a Steven Spielberg's movie, which helped pass the Oprah Bill to help stop child abuse. Oprah was born into a poverty stricken environment where you had to teach yourself, have the mindset and drive to propel yourself into the future. In fact at 2½ years old she learned how to read and started school at 1st grade and then skipped another year to third grade.

Her net worth in 2004 is approximately $1.1 billion dollars and has been added to the Forbes Billionaire list and she is again the first African-American woman to achieve such an accomplishment.
