Sting will never try to suppress his "eroticism".

The Police singer, who is famed for having marathon tantric sex sessions with wife Trudie Styler, believes being in touch with your sexuality is "as important" as understanding art or politics.

Sting said: "I think eroticism is incredibly important, at least as important as art and politics. You pay a terrible price if you try to suppress it. You can't do that, the unconscious always wins."

The 'Roxanne' singer, who caused controversy after he was pictured sitting in a car outside a Hamburg brothel at 2am in September, has reportedly been given permission by Trudie to admire other women while on tour - as long as he doesn't take things any further.

A former member of Sting's business team said: "They have a fairly open marriage. Trudie knows that he is a terrible flirt. As long as he is looking and not touching and it's away from home, she will turn a blind eye."

Sting has also revealed he still loves the song 'Roxanne' - about a man dating a prostitute - because it reminds him of his first experiences of brothels, in Paris, in 1977.

He explained: "I was seeing that world for the first time. I'm sure it went on in Newcastle but in Paris there was a certain romanticism and a tradition around it."
