Dizzee Rascal's kidnap threat

(BANG) - Dizzee Rascal was the target of a kidnap plot by a London gang.

Former friends of the London-born rapper - real name Dylan Mills - attempted to kidnap him when he became famous because they believed his record label would pay a hefty ransom.

Dizzee told Britain's Observer Music Monthly magazine: "They were meant to be my friends as well.

"When you start to make a bit of money, people switch on you. They get the wrong end of the stick.

"They think you're this or that, but really it's just that they miss you.

"And because of the kind of people they are, they don't deal with it properly - they can only respond with violence."

Dizzee says the gang changed their mind after realising the rapper was still a good friend.

He explained: "But then, when they actually see you, they realise 'Oh, he hasn't changed that much really.'

"They weren't really going to kidnap me, they were just yapping."
