Serbia customs seize 35 oil tank trucks

BELGRADE, Serbia, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Serbian customs officers seized 35 tanker trucks with 264,172 gallons of diesel oil allegedly being smuggled into the country, officials said Monday.

The trucks were stopped at the southern Serbian town of Pirot, close to the border with Bulgaria, last week, a tax administration official said Monday.

The diesel oil, with an estimated market value of $1 million, was declared for the customs as crude oil needed for paint production, but actually was to be distributed to private filling stations for sale across Serbia, Serbian media reported.

The Serbian Customs, police and tax administration seized the tank trucks in a joint action and later transported the diesel oil to an oil refinery at Novi Sad, north of Belgrade.
