Nigeria: Gunmen attack oil ship

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Nigerian gunmen attacked an oil ship operated by the ExxonMobil Corp., killing one man and wounding another, This Day reported Wednesday.

The attack Tuesday comes ahead of scheduled peace talks between the government officials in the oil-rich Niger Delta and militant from the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND.

MEND has not taken credit for Tuesdays attack. Violence against oil operations in Nigeria has been blamed for a 20 percent reduction in output in recent years.

Nigerias militants have called for a more equitable distribution of the countrys oil wealth.
