Neighbors worry Ohio sinkhole may widen

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A sinkhole caused by a broken drainage pipe is threatening to swallow up homes in East Cleveland, Ohio.

The heavy rain hitting northeast Ohio was not helping the situation of the family who lived in the home the sinkhole swallowed, WEWS-TV Cleveland reported Monday.

And now, even the neighbors are worried the sinkhole could expand, threatening their homes.

Pam Steinnett, who lives directly next door to the giant pit said firefighters have come to her home three times in the past day. They've been taking photos just in case they need before and after shots.

"If my bedroom window is open, I will hear the rocks falling down in there," Steinnett said. "It is scary."

There is an ongoing investigation into who is responsible to pay for the roughly $200,000 in damages already inflicted.
