Human bones found at NYC's Ground Zero

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- New searches for human remains around the site of the World Trade Center collapse in New York began Monday after bones were found in utility holes.

Discoveries of bones began last Wednesday and the weekend finds brought to 114 the number of fragments from skulls, torsos and limbs, Newsday reported Monday.

Deputy Mayor Ed Skyler, who is overseeing the recovery effort, said at least 12 manholes and utility tunnels that have not been thoroughly searched since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, will be in coming days.

The area runs along the western side of the 16-acre site, and Skyler told Newsday said the parts of the World Trade Center site under construction have been "searched meticulously" and the old tunnels will also be.

"I think what we have to keep in mind is, it is a huge site," Skyler said.

Families of the victims have called for a federal order to halt to all construction until the search is complete. Forty percent of those families have received no remains, the report said.
