Boston Globe facing job cuts

BOSTON, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Boston Globe employees are facing a big round of job cuts with as many as 19 editorial positions on the chopping block, reports say.

The bad news was included in an internal memo obtained by the rival Boston Herald.

The memo from Globe publisher P. Steven Ainsley said The New York Times' New England Media Group, which includes the Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, is looking to slash 125 jobs.

Ainsley said voluntary buyouts will be offered to employees who have worked at the company for 10 years or more.
