NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A contract employee with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday agreed to plead guilty to taking $299,000 from a sand and gravel supplier.

Raul Miranda of Houston, who reviewed construction projects after Hurricane Katrina, took 25 cents per cubic foot in return for supplying confidential information on standards used to evaluate bids, federal prosecutors said. Miranda was working on the reconstruction of the Lake Cataouatche Levee south of New Orleans.

Investigators said Miranda gave confidential information to another Corps employee, knowing it would be passed on to the subcontractor.
