Heath Ledger

Heathcliff Andrew Ledger was born on April 4, 1979 in Perth Australia of Irish and Scottish parents. He attended Mary’s Mount Primary school and later enrolled at Guildford Grammar School, but left to Sydney to pursue acting. Ledger’s early work include the TV series “Sweat”, and “Roar”. He starred in “Ten Things I hate About You”, co-starred “The Patriot”, “Monster’s Ball”, “A Knight’s Tale”, “Ned Kelly”, “The Brothers Grimm”, and “The Order”. Heath Ledger won The ShoWest Award in 2001 for his performance in “The Patriot”. Ledger’s breakthrough performance in “Brokeback Mountain” as a gay ranch hand who has an affair with an aspiring rodeo rider, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Actor in a Drama”, and an Academy Awards nomination for “Best Actor”. Peter Travers, film critic for Rollings Stones Magazine, describes, “Ledger's magnificent performance is an acting miracle. He seems to tear it from his insides. Ledger doesn't just know how Ennis moves, speaks and listens; he knows how he breathes. Heath Ledger has been subject for controvery. He values his privacy. Although Ledger denies the acusation, he allegedly assaulted paparazzi photogrophers in 2004. Some photogrophers retaliated by squirting him with water pistols during his red carpet entrance at the Broke Back Mountain premier in Sydney. He has endured criticism for his performance at the Screen Guild Awards, where he giggled while introducing Brokeback Mountain’s nomination. Ledger later excused his behavoir attributing the performance to nervousness. The Los Angeles Times describes the incident as “some kind of gay spoof.” In January 2006 Australia's Ledger, “incorrectly assumed that the state was banning Brokeback Mountain. He made statements that West Virginia had lynchings as recently as the 1980s.
